Cambridge IGCSE 0500 First Language English Newspaper Reports

Hey, again all of yous!πŸ‘©

Hope everyone's doing their best in life!😊

I am back with another highly demanded question from Cambridge IGCSE 0500 Reading Language Paper 1, which is Reports. Cambridge IGCSE might want you to write newspaper reports or school magazine reports, however, the former is more popular. Reports are factual, formal, detailed and informative.

What are Newspaper Reports?

Newspaper reports might want you to put yourself in the shoes of the journalist or a reporter/editor. Reports publish and inform the public of local or global news.

What is the structure of a good report?

1. Start with a catchy headline that has an alliteration. Eg: Perfect Plan for Players

2. Write the byline right under the headline that contains the reporter's name and location, eg: By Jyoti Singh, Newcastle upon Tyne

3. The first paragraph has to include all the major details from the Reading Insert put in one or two sentences. These are the Wh Questions for the report: why, where, who, what and when of the report.

4. The second paragraph should include evidence and proof from the spectators or characters involved who will be in the Reading Insert. Their speech has to be quoted in speech marks.

5. The third and usually the final paragraph should write any predictions and anticipation about the events in the Reading Insert.

Below is attached a list of crucial things that one should keep in mind for writing reports: Do not forget to take screenshots for that last-minute exam revision. Alternatively, you could email me at jyotisngh30@gmail.com if you need a copy of that to-do list for reports.
